Experience Days - Half Day Kayaking Experience - Wales

Messing about on the river may never be the same again! This Kayaking Experience will get you out on the water in no time and teach you why this most popular of paddle sports has an army of devotees. From exploring inland waterways to surfing breaking waves, and from negotiating whitewater to sprints, time trials and even performing acrobatics – kayaking truly has something for everyone. Complete with approximately 3 hours of tuition from a qualified instructor this course will teach you everything you need to know to get you out of onto the open water. Once you experience what kayaking has to offer you're sure to want to come back for more. Once you have arrived and been welcomed to the centre your day will begin with a thorough safety briefing covering all aspects of the water and the kayak you will be in for the experience. Once kitted out in the wetsuit and safety gear, you will be ready to head on out onto the open water to begin learning the basics. Your instructor will be providing constant tuition, including paddling and safety techniques. After you've had a length of time practising the basics, you might get to take part in some on-water games and really test your skills!

Red Letter Days - Kayaking

Fancy doing something a bit more adventurous on a day off? Kayaking is fun, active and a great chance to learn a new skill. Begin with a safety briefing and an outline of basic handling techniques from an expert instructor. Then go out onto the water in a one-person kayak for a relaxing river trip through the Victorian Jephson Gardens and into the nature reserve. There may even be a chance to play some games specifically designed to aid competence in the water - it's a fun way to end a satisfying experience. Kayaking is one of the fastest growing watersports in the country and can't be beaten for the sheer pleasure of powering silently across the water.
Leamington Spa, Warwickshire
Availability: Sessions run on selected weekend dates around twice a month between March - October. Weather: Kayaking goes ahead in most conditions. Very rarely flood conditions may lead to postponement - the venue makes contact if a session is postponed. Duration: Lasts for three hours including a refreshment break. To ensure a prompt start, please arrive a few minutes in advance of the start time. Allow some time at the centre afterwards to shower and change. Numbers On Day: There is a student to tutor ratio of 8:1 and everyone has their own kayak. Spectators: Spectators are welcome and can hire boats during the season to go out on the river. Safety remains their responsibility at all times. Facilities including a cafe are located in the park overlooking the river. Dress Code: Please wear basic sports clothes that are fine to get wet. Bring a towel and complete change of clothes. A buoyancy aid and a waterproof top are provided. Either remove or firmly secure glasses. Contact lenses may be worn. Guidelines: Northbound exit the M1 at junction 17 onto the M45. At the first roundabout take the first exit onto the A45 Coventry. Join the A445 Leamington and keep following the road (for Leamington/Warwick) to the town centre. Mill Road is off the B4099 towards Royal Leamington Spa and the (signposted) boat centre is in the park. Restrictions: Min age 14. Participants must be reasonably fit and confident in the water. Ability to swim is not necessary as buoyancy aids are worn at all times. A complete a medical declaration must be completed (must be signed by a parent/guardian if under 18). Other Info: You WILL get wet but there are hot shower facilities so please bring shower kit. The venue is a British Canoeing Quality Mark centre, and is licensed by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority.

Kayaking is one of the fastest growing water-sports in the UK, and it's not hard to see why: thrilling, affordable and versatile, the thrill you get from kayaking and powering yourself across the water can't be beaten. This is a full day’s introduction to the wonderful world of kayaking! Once you have arrived and been welcomed to the centre your day will begin with a safety briefing covering all aspects of the water and the kayak you will be in for the experience. Once kitted out in the safety gear, you will be ready to head on out onto the river to begin learning the basics. You will spend the day paddling on the Rivers Avon and Leam. Along the way you'll learn boat and paddle skills, so that you can control your kayak with ease. There will be the chance to paddle up close to see Warwick Castle from the river too. After you’ve had a length of time practicing the basics, you might get to take part in some on-water games and really test your skills! You may even get the chance to run a weir if you like a bit of excitement!  Those who are interested will be offered the chance to be assessed for their BCU 1 Star award on the day.This is the perfect taster session if you're looking to try kayaking, and you are guaranteed to leave absolutely exhilarated.
